QUICK TAKE: I'm a huge fan of Daryl Gregory, and SPOONBENDERS is one of my favorite books, so I've been counting down the days to REVELATOR, Gregory's latest, and boy is it freakin' WEIRD. Set against the backdrop of the Smoky Mountains in the 1930s, the story follows a young woman who has broken free of her family and their strange religion, only to be pulled back home when she discovers the family matriarch has passed away. To give more away about this one would spoil the fun, but I guarantee you haven't read anything like REVELATOR. Scary and hypnotic, the book blends scifi and religion in new and exciting ways and I can't wait to talk more about this one in the weeks to come!

I don’t really understand. Did we win because she killed the god? Did we lose because the god lives in the girl. Did we fall back into his pull? Overall, while the storytelling was good; the story was bad.

Strong middle, okay beginning, weak end. I’m surprised it took a turn for the deeply okay. Maybe I expected too much horror? The character development felt flat and unconvincing to me. Sunny was unconvincing. Whatever this book tried to do in the end was done way better. Just go read Sharp Objects, honestly.

This sounds so harsh djfjdjd there were genuinely some banger parts and lines, but I’m tired and overall I’m disappointed in the book so I’m a bit pissy about it.

Kiiiiind of in love with Stella though. Who knew I’d be into women who brandish shotguns in churches??? I certainly didn’t. God I’m so gay
