*****SPOILERS*****
About the book:Fourteen years ago, Delphine abandoned her prestigious soloist spot at the Paris Opera Ballet for a new life in St. Petersburg––taking with her a secret that could upend the lives of her best friends, fellow dancers Lindsay and Margaux. Now 36 years old, Delphine has returned to her former home and to the legendary Palais Garnier Opera House, to choreograph the ballet that will kickstart the next phase of her career––and, she hopes, finally make things right with her former friends. But Delphine quickly discovers that things have changed while she's been away...and some secrets can't stay buried forever.Moving between the trio's adolescent years and the present day, The Ballerinas explores the complexities of female friendship, the dark drive towards physical perfection in the name of artistic expression, the double-edged sword of ambition and passion, and the sublimated rage that so many women hold inside––all culminating in a twist you won't see coming, with magnetic characters you won't soon forget.

What I Liked:
• The concept of a book like Black Swan
What I Didn't Like:
• Boring
• Slow
• Not what it promised
Overall Thoughts:

I suppose I was interested in this book because it promised a book like Black Swan. What I expected was something like Suspiria, but I did not get any of that. What I got was a boring and slow and agonizingly horrible book about ballerinas. It's so drama-filled with these women that at times I found myself toning them out, which when you're reading a book is not something you should want to do.
The women come off whiny and super annoying. Honestly it's hard to believe they even were "friends" at some point. I just couldn't get into this book because of all of the fights and slow approach to getting to the meat of the story.
It's only 300 pages but it felt like I was walking up the biggest hill and wasn't able to see the top.
Final Thoughts: Go watch Suspiria, but Dario Argento's original masterpiece.

This book starts of really slow and overall seems to be kind of a really obvious, surface deep feminist excursion into the world of dancing. I didn’t particularly like any of the characters but Delphine’s character development helped a lot to appeal her to me. And the twist at the end! Anyways, I like the realistic, bitter portrayal of friendships and how they age with us. Aside from that I don’t much have to say about this book it’s not terrible but I found the plot a little simple and superficial.
