All by Myself, Alone by Mary Higgins Clark

Murder, scandal, and jewel theft drape the pages of this luxurious novel. A quick read, All By Myself, Alone hosts a myriad of intriguing and suspicious characters all present on a cruise ship: the perfect setting for a crime, no? While the story is interesting to play along with, there are few surprises or twists and, oddly, relatively little suspense. A watered-down (pardon the pun) Woman in Cabin 10 with little depth or development of subplots, All By Myself, Alone was an enjoyable read, but not one to join the ranks of Gone Girl or The Girl on the Train. A solid recommendation for fans of cozy mysteries and beach reads.

Although this is the 11th book in the Alvira and Willie series, this is the first book I have read about them. It was a nice little mystery novel, and I appreciated the interplay of the different characters as well as the premise of the story. I have picked up Mary Higgins Clark for a quick read before, and I will continue to turn to her books when looking for a light story to become engrossed in.

I’ve never read anything else by this author and I now never will. There was no suspense and it certainly wasn’t thrilling.

It spoils the mystery when I was able to predict the story. Not as suspenseful as the other Mary Higgins Clark books that I've read so far.

Definitely not one of her best ones...and I've read all of them.

Book #33 read in 2017

I really enjoyed this read. It was fast-paced and I had fun trying to figure it out.

I don’t usually finish 2 ⭐️ books - life is too short for that! However if the author had left out one sentence in the early pages, there was enough going on here to make it fun, if not particularly suspenseful. Sometimes it is okay to just lose yourself in a silly story.
