Wonderfully atmospheric story about Italy in Medici times. Interesting choice to depict the Medici family as more lovable and merciful than other Italian families. I like the writing style, although the book could've (should've?) been shorter. The beginning is quite slow, but the story picks up in the last half.

Lucrezia de Medic is one of my favorite historica  figures especially because of how much we don't know about her and how romanticized her beauty has been, and the mystery surrounding her death.

I love that this made her so real and was brutally honest about what her short life was likely like. I absorbed every sentence with horror and supreme discomfort.

Well written and heartbreaking, Lucrezia is brought to life with a quiet yet fierce passion that makes it easy to fall in love with her and wish a horrible hex on her enemies.

I especially love that this gives her a happy ending that I so wish she had had. This is what really made this novel great for me.
