What a series finale!! Like everyone else, I had been waiting for Xander's story. I wasn't sure how it was going to go with all his issues, but it really worked out in a wonderful way. While this is not super romantic or particularly steamy, I loved this series wrap up.

One of the things I really liked is that the timeline in this book wasn't rushed. Xander needs time to work on his mental health and it wasn't a magic fix. He and Derek establish friendship before anything else happens and that's really great that they have that foundation. Derek is, of course, a walking green flag and has some things to work through as well, but he is such a wonderful friend to Xander - he keeps to his boundaries and Xander ends up respecting that. More than that, though, he respects and understands that Xander and Seven come as a package deal. I don't want to say more, but Derek is just.....so, so wonderful. And Xander is a more nuanced character than he may seem in previous books - he too has a lot of really great qualities. I love how Derek and Xander finally end up coming together...melting. The last chapters....so, so good! I love how things wrap up with Aggie and with all the boys, but oh my heart - the epilogue! Just fantastic.

I was dreading this book but I just wanted to be done with the series, so I made myself deal with Xander. And while he and Derrick weren't as bad as I was anticipating, I had some issues with the pacing and general timeline.

I feel like half of the "plot points" could have happened at the beginning of the novel (since they were being built up throughout the series) and then we could have seen their relationship develop on a more equal level. As it was, this just didn't really flow, and the conversations felt repetitive.

But I'm also realizing I don't care for the found family trope in books. Or at least not the way it's done in this series, which was just throwing a bunch of quirky characters at me and telling me the unhealthy codependency means they're a real family.

Wow….I was so not ready to say goodbye to the Bertha Boys. I absolutely loved this series and these boys! Saxon created a strong amazing foundation family with so much trauma but also so much love and support. They all had their own stuff to work out and I am so glad that everyone had their own HEA.

Where do I start with Xander. We had glimpses of his anxiety and panic attacks from the beginning of the series so I always wondered how his story would turn out. Saxon could not have written his story line better. I loved that he had to put in the work for himself in order to grow and take care of himself rather than relying on everyone around him. His character growth throughout this whole book was so well written. You can definitely tell how far he had gotten by the end.

As for Derek, what a saint of a man. He had so much patience with Xander and the wherewithal to walk away from Xander when he needed a break. Even if that break was for 6months while Xander figured out how to help himself and make himself better without falling back on Derek.

Amazing series and amazing characters! If only I could actually meet all of them in real life!
