The writing was beautiful, but I feel worse having read it. It’s fiction - why did the story have to be so horrible and the narration so unkind?

Loved this book! A cross between Trigiani’s The Shoemakers Wife and Ferrante’s My Brilliant Friend

I kept hoping for Stella to escape her life and a happy ending. A story about a woman of a time when women had few choices. I was so angry for her and what she suffered. No happy ending for this one sadly.

Honestly I just hate it! It was a chore to pick it back up and continue. And then after a graphic scene with the father, I couldn’t do it anymore. I stopped at 20%.
