READ IT. JUST READ IT. When you read it, do not allow yourself to google anything about the book. Read it as though it were the time period it came out in, I feel as though reading it without the internet makes the book better. I cannot stress enough how much I recommend reading this book, but particularly without google or the internet.

I adore this book and have since the first time I read the first page---both the movie and the book are fantastic, and do the same things and explore the same things while approaching it in different structural ways (I actually read the book before the movie, funnily enough.) It's a light, fantastical read with plenty of comedy and anything you could ever want---fencing, true love, etc etc. I can't recommend it enough. Though many of the "abridged" sections leave me wanting more (like Buttercup's royal training, the history of Florin, all the hats...). Fascinating how he's able to blend his real life and facts into the abridging persona in such a way that it's hard to figure out where the line between fact and fiction blurs. Wonderful, wonderful book, though be prepared for typical levels of unexamined misogyny, both in the "real world" parts and the lack of depth to Buttercup's character. Nonetheless, imminently rereadable and comforting every time.

i’ll be honest, i liked the movie better. the way it’s set up was jarring to me and a little bit confusing trying to figure out what’s going on. including real people for fictional events that are suppose to read as real wasn’t it for me. extra 0.25 because i like the inclusion of Fezzik having a cute relationship with Waverly at the end. weird amount of gross horny on main, animal abuse, and one happenstance of a slur. someone needs to make a version where Fezzik and Inigo are gay. it reads so strongly that they’re in a relationship

I was surprised to find I wasn't in love with this book. I love the movie, but the movie pretty much has everything that's good about this book. The rest is just fluff that's not needed.
