good

NOTE: this is not a standalone, and it’s important to realise this book has some pretty big spoilers for the ones that went before it, because this is a series with an ongoing story; so you absolutely need to read the books in order.

Mackenzie is back home, and safe with her family and her new mate, but she’s still trying to deal with the issues her capture and imprisonment caused.
Meanwhile Lucan is trying to find the evidence needed to take down Jasper as the dragon head, but is having difficulties proving things.
When the head of the vampires comes to Catch & Release with a request for a hunt, it’s Mackenzie and Lucan who are tasked with finding a rogue vampire, one who might have closer ties to the problems they have been facing.

This book is the first step in the final fight Mackenzie and Lucan are waging against the insidious Purity plot that Jasper has been waging within the supernatural community.
Some major steps on the path are made, and some intriguing storylines are begun, ones I’m looking forward to seeing where they lead (especially the Tyr/Guardian one).

An exciting return to the Mackenzie Green world, and an important one, even though it doesn’t necessarily have as much action in it as previous ones (it does have some), it was good to see that her trauma was acknowledged and her struggles weren’t dismissed. Lucan’s empathic abilities and expertise proved to be quite useful in this respect, which was a nice touch.

I’m hoping the next book showcases Jasper’s downfall, because I really dislike that dragon!

An excellent series for post apocalyptic fantasy fans, dragon lovers, and contemporary fantasy fans alike.

I enjoyed this book a lot, I loved the story, the characters are great and I can’t wait to start the next book in the series. This could very well be a contender for my list of books to re-read at some point.

This was an amazing way to get back in touch with Mackenzie, Lucan, and the rest of the extended family. Kenzie is working through all of her new trauma but she is ready to be back at work. Lucan is her new partner and it helps them rebuild their bond.

Someone is kidnapping children, there is a rogue vampire, and a case is just what the two lifers need.

Excellent story telling and world. I'm always happy to return to it
