Such a good book. I picked it up in hopes of something like Cemetery Boys, and this is exactly that. While nothing will ever beat Cemetery Boys in my eyes, this is definitely up there.

It’s not often that I turn from the last page of a book to find myself shocked and devastated that it’s over. Thank god I already knew there was a sequel coming, because I don’t know that my heart could take just being done with Charlie. And Sam. And Heather. And Ollie. And Leonie. And Mitch. And Audrey 🥲

What a debut. Not only were the characters fleshed out completely and had growth (and so easy to root for, as evidenced above), but the plot was SO intricate. The science was there, the mystery was there, the sweet romantic undertones were there, the twists were there. It’s a YA, but there was still a lot of dark themes and some heavy grief — understandable, when ghosts play such a role. Also loved the disability and queer representation.

This was practically perfect, in my opinion. I couldn’t recommend it more.

This was a fairly well-done YA fantasy with well-done LGBTQIA+ characters (gay, trans, bisexual, unlabeled), but its magic system was incredibly confusing and hard to follow at times. This made the actual plot hard to follow.

Talbot's characters were interesting and complicated characters who felt well-developed, and as a disabled reader, I thought the disability rep was good with a character who dealt with his limitations and succeeded but wasn't magically fixed and didn't just "get over it" like some disabled book characters tend to do.

Loved the descriptions of York and all its ghosts and the romance was cute if a little cliche. There were parts I wasn't necessarily convinced by the magic system but overall I thought it worked and was a p fun read
Also always nice to have disabled representation where u can see how the disability actually affects someone's life without it being a major focus of their character or the plot

Descriptions of suicide. Death. Violence.

Main character is a double amputee, secondary character is trans.

I really unique idea, I've never read anything like this before. Lots of action but I did want more of the quiet moments in between.
