I really regret not reading this book when I was younger, I would have loved it so much. I expected this to be more of a children's tale but it had a surprising seriousness to it. It tackled a lot of big, heavy issues, like death, corruption, growing up, the Church, ethnic identities, class. Lyra was a fantastic main characters, bold and brave but not afraid to admit that she was afraid or unsure. I'm really eager to finish the rest of the series
A really incredible journey of a girl and her daemon. Mysteries are presented and answered in a good amount of time. Well written action scenes and you really care about the characters.
Great book. Good story, keeps you invested in the protagonist. The daemons, as portrayed here, are a great addition to fantasy lore.

Humans have a little demon with them? That is so cute. The demons take an animal’s form which is a direct physical representation of the person’s soul. LOVED IT.

I can’t get over how simple and straightforward Philip Pullman’s writing style is. There’s a lot of telling and not showing through prose, but it works in this story. The characters and world are so fun to relearn about that the simplistic writing is just a means to an end and made reading this seem effortless.
Cannae stand Lord Asriel or Mrs Coulter, but Iorek and Lyra have my whole heart.
I’m not rushing into the next book, but I’ll probably pick it up sometime soon :)
