I would say I thoroughly enjoyed the first third of this, but that's about it.
I loved the entire Okinawa storyline, when the fish first appear on land. It's a very creative premise. In particular I liked the scene where the shark comes out of the water for the first time on the beach. I wish the rest of the story was about sea creatures walking on land, rather than the machines taking over humans.
The rest of the story fell a little flat for me. It was grotesque, and not in a way I really liked.
A lot of the imagery left me with an icky feeling in my stomach, and not in an enjoyable way. In that sense, it was a bit like Greased from Shiver. It was to the point that I didn't enjoy the art as much.
It stopped being an intriguing premise fast. I really enjoyed the two bonus storie at the end; Amigara Fault was my introduction to Junji Ito. Gyo hasn't turned me off to Ito, but I don't see myself returning to this story.

Depressing. It just continues to get worse. Stories are supposed to have ups and downs, but this just keeps going down. It makes it boring.

My original rating was a 3.5, but i'll round it up to a 4 for the two stories at the end. Especially 'The enigma of Amigara fault'.
As a manga fan, I decided to buy this book randomly like ''Oh he's pretty popular, lets give it a go'' (I don't talk like that btw, just an example). Needless to say, I was not disappointed. The drawings were amazing, and the story went from 0-100 real fast. Even the two bonus stories at the end kept my attention the whole time! Give it a go, why not? (I don't recommend this to someone with a weak stomach though.)

This really delivered on the Manga horror it promised to be. Reading this after the COVID-19 pandemic made it that much more horrific in my opinion. The artwork was very well done, and the story kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole thing. That being said, I didn’t enjoy the characters a lot. I am a character reader though, so that’s more of a personal preference than anything else.

Jumps the shark too much, I didn't care much for the dynamic between the two main characters and thought that it wasn't very well developed at all. Cool body horror tho

The main story starts out laughably B horror, then midway through becomes unenjoyably gross. The ending could be satisfying if you liked the main characters and rooted for their relationship, but I found them profoundly unlikeable. The use of onomatopoeia is fun though and the art is compelling. The two short stories at the end are fantastic.
