got this thinking it was titled "feminist film theory and pretty womEn" and i was not excited to find its last chapter was completely dedicated to analyzing a julia roberts romcom. it was an otherwise not-terrible intro into feminist film theory that gave some basic distinctions between 2nd and 3rd wave feminist thought. it also was an alright intro to how The Gaze has changed throughout time and across different schools of thought. it still didn't do a great job of either and i couldn't bring myself to read that final chapter
turns out i don't hate academic literature, i'd just been reading the wrong kind (for me)
