Truly one of the worst books I’ve ever read.
I loved Jane Eyre and was looking forward to reading more of Charlotte Brontë’s work but this was torture. If you read Jane Eyre and hated the character of St. John, just imagine an entire book told from the perspective of a man very similar to him.
This novel is an endless repetition of misogyny and monotony, and if that wasn’t enough, there’s a dead dog right at the end. Just a dash of “Old Yeller” for funsies. I hate this book.
