It's hard to rate this one, because the story was so traumatic and hard to read, but the voices and experiences that this story brought to light were ones worth reading!

The trans and autism representation was so well done. This was also truly one of the top horror novels I have ever read. Just read with caution, but this one is heavy, dark, and traumatic.

This book was gorey and scary and a little sad, and also very validating. It felt like someone was peeking into my brain to see how it worked and then writing it into someone else. I will think about this one forever.

It’s been a while since I’ve loved something like this. One of a kind!! Absolutely stunning.

An incredible addition to the LGBTQIA+ horror lexicon. Is YA but doesn’t read like one. I cried so much in the last 1/4 of the book.

Will be thinking about this for a long time. BE WARNED, lots of body horror and creepy men.

Sadly I think I'm too much of a chicken for this book. If you are not a weenie (I never read horror, so I'm a pretty big weenie) I would recommend it if you want to see a trans masc autistic boy and supernatural powers.

If I ever gain more courage I will try this book again

Dark fantasy with a ton of queer angst. Definitely projects current-day understandings of gender & queer identity onto the past. But that’s also kind of the point of some queer historical-ish fiction, and this is a fine example. Felt overly bleak at times, had that omnipresent threat of sexual violence/“the worst possible thing is always what happens” vibe that I find unique to queer writing. I have less interest in that as I age, but I think I would have loved this book in my 20s.

A gothic tale with mutilated lady ghosts, feisty women committed against their will and trans-love.
I enjoyed it but felt the protagonist was a touch passive (but her believing she must be “a good girl” is repeated) for me to really enjoy it.

I really enjoyed The Spirit Bares Its Teeth, even though I feel like this was even more graphic than Hell Followed With Us. I think the character work was really well done and I enjoyed how fast paced this book was! Silas was such a strong character. I haven’t really read anything “medical horror-y” before and it was really intriguing to listen to, even though I was squirming a bit!!!
