Something inexplicably dark arises in my chest. It’s black and evil and cruel. Dangerous, even.
All I want to do is break her. Shatter her into pieces. And then arrange those pieces to fit against my own. I don’t care if they don’t fit—I’ll fucking make them.

I've heard a lot about this masterpiece. Some love it, some don't. And some can't bcs it was just too dark. I was warned and told to check the tw/cw which I did and it was clear that this would be high on the list of darkest rom books I ever read. This book definitely showed me where my boundaries truly are. This book is dark. It made me question myself multiple times. I learned things about myself idk if I even wanted to know but I do now.

“Zade,” he whispers against my lips. “That’s the only name that will ever leave your lips from now on, especially when you’re making that little pussy feel good. And when I’m making that pussy feel good, then you can call me God.”

It's definitely not for everyone and I can see why many people on booktok said they had to dnf.

“You look beautiful,” I say, cutting off her continued muttering and rendering her silent. Subtly, she glances over her shoulder at me, but doesn’t acknowledge my words.
“So, not only do you only fear me in the daylight, but you only love me when I’m making you come.”
That gets her attention. She whips around, fire in her eyes as she spits, “I don’t love you.”
“Not yet,” I counter, topping it off with a grin. Her eyes narrow into thin slits.

This book doesn't just mention dark topics it goes deeper into the topics than any book I read before. At first I thought this might be a reason for me to dnf but oddly I turned out to like it.

“You can’t escape me, little mouse. I will always find you.”

This book had me in its clutches for a good 3 days and I'm excited to start the second book. I already miss Zady and Addie💕.

Please check out the tw/cw maybe watch a few edits on tiktok to get a feel of what to expect and enjoy 💀✨️

This book was amazing. With its length and somewhat slow burn there is lots of character development. I loved the question of possible supernatural forces at place. Z is truly the embodiment of a very morally grey character. The fact that the height of the action occurs in the last 20 pages and ends in a cliffhanger was very well done. I enjoy the push and pull between fluff moments and WTF moments. Can't wait to read book 2! This book is very dark so read the trigger warnings/content warnings page in the book!

I honestly didn’t think this book would live up to the hype of the first one, which I instantly fell in love with, and for the first maybe 1/3 of this book, I was fearing that it wouldn’t.
But oh my god did it deliver.

H D Carlton knows how to right a seriously addictive book. I devoured the first one, but this one I wanted to savour, because I knew that when I finished this book, I would reach the conclusion of Zade and Addie, and I had no idea where it was going to go.

I don’t have many words for this book, everything I said about the characters, and the story telling, in my review of the first book ring true of this book as well.

The end of this book made me cry which I definitely was not expecting, but I’m so happy with Z and Addies end, it was perfect.

The last thing I would say about this series, definitely DEFINITELY, take the warnings and content descriptions seriously. This book could be very triggering for some, more so than the first book, so really bear that in mind, but it is SO worth the read if you can.

**spoiler alert** ok ok ok I get it - this book is fucked up, I know - BUT as a girly who actively looks for books with trigger warnings and is an avid Dramione fanfic reader, this was great for me (Yes I realize that I should probably talk about this in therapy).
Please, for the love of Zade (haha), check the trigger warnings.
Now for boring book review stuff: I will say that the characterization of our two main characters was pretty flat and one note, I'm hoping the next book will give us some more of their personalities outside of just their sex lives.
I was not really sold on Zade's vigilante side plot until the very end and the cliff hanger left me both gooped and gagged. Also I guessed the murderer very early on in Addie's side plot solving her great grandmother's murder, so that could have been a bit better. Oh and all of the smut was really awesome except for the first scene with the gun for me.
Overall, this was a really fun time for me, but I would really hesitate to recommend it to anyone (I'm just a bit depraved I guess!)

Dark dark dark read. Would suggest anyone reading pay attention to each trigger warning in the opening pages because they are explicitly mentioned and detailed in the book. There were some parts where I rooted for Z and some where I wanted him to hurt. All in all, my full attention was captured by this book. (Largely an unhealthy relationship but the plot was interesting)

Great book! I went through so many emotions trying to read this, because it was so dark I felt guilty for liking the characters bc they were so dark. The author did a good job of making you like the characters even if they’re not actually likeable????
