Interesting, but I think the benefit of Fitzgerald stories are that they are short and this….was not. The characters were brilliantly written as the most awful people, but nearly 400 pages of that was…exhausting, to say the least. Was really hoping it would end with
Anthony’s death
but I do like the ending, it’s very fitting. Both of them doomed to repeat themselves because they just don’t learn. Justice for Zelda Fitzgerald, what a brilliant woman.

you’ve to be in a very specific mindset to put up with modernist bullshit. probably will go back to it.

Emulates the time period and setting so realistically. I love Fitzgerald’s fascination with social classes and gender roles, and even though it gets frustrating at times since he’s so honest about the inequality that took place, it’s such a realistic depiction of the early 1900’s. His books come across as a warning to me, about how hope and aspirations can lead to your downfall if you let them control your life. Similar themes including NYC night life, affairs, and the intimacy that public settings bring out of people seem to come up like in Gatsby which I adored. I loved it but nowhere near TGG of course.

I enjoyed the imagery that he conjures when describing the characters drinking, partying, contemplating the meaning of life etc, but found it a bit slow at times & difficult to get into
