I did not like it as much as Gatsby but this is more of a pre-WWI novel where Gatsby is about the 20s, and I prefer that period in Europe. A sort of good ending. But similar to Gatsby so literally could have read that. But not bad.

I found it very difficult to know what the motives and drives of the characters were. Made it impossible for me to care about what was going on.

Well-written. I can see the criticism of idleness unfolding throughout the story. I just found it boring and meandering. Which seems to be the point sometimes, but it doesn't make it enjoyable or interesting to me.

One of the few authors who causes me to stop and re-read sections to marvel at the way they are written. Love him.

Very Gatsby-esque. The plot isn't subtle, but the writing is excellent. Interesting to read ~100 years after it was written when we are living in our own version of the Gilded Age.
