While a little predictable, it was still a great read and kept the storyline and characters moving forward. JD was his bull-headed self through some of it, but it was nice to see a bit of self reflection in there, too. I miss Smith in action, though.
Wow, this is one thrilling ride through a plot so devious that you have no clue where it will lead. American Operator by Brian Andrews and Jeffrey Wilson is the fourth book about John Dempsey and the Ember group. This one is mostly set in Turkey and Syria. It also contains my favorite character so far, Amraz "Raz" Demir. I hope he gets his new BMW and turns up in more stories, he was brilliant. It's interesting to read about this strange political landscape that is set both in Europe and the middle east. It has a big problem that probably never will see a good solution. Great work gentlemen.
Excellent opener to a new trilogy. Again, some of the geopolitical plotlines are a little bit too relevant in current times but written long enough ago to still be able to appreciate the fictionality. New characters, again strongly written and providing background allows for more investment into the story.
I love a good spy thriller. I though this book had a good story line, and engaging main character but lots of jargon that distracts from the plot. For a casual reader, it's overkill. I would read the next book in the series, and will look to read the previous books in the series but the spy jargon and acronyms need to be cut back. I think the reader would get the point without so much of it.. If you need to have a several page glossary of terms at the end of the book, you're doing it wrong. Thanks to NetGalley for providing a copy of this book for review.
Fast-moving story with complex plot on a world stage. Great characters. Dempsey is a complicated combination of lone wolf and team player. He’s paired with a great team including two strong women. The plight of the captured CIA agent is wrenching. They are up against an intriguing nemesis. He’s playing for the wrong team, but you still have to admire his competence.
