sigh. i’m tired of reading the same poetry from previous books and only getting a handful of new poems.

I wasn't sure if I would appreciate a lot of these poems, as they are from a romantic point of view. However, Lang Leav's writing style made me feel the poet's emotions and realise I, too, have felt some of these things before.

Beautiful. Lang Leav can put into words the feelings that are otherwise indescribable.

maybe it's just because i'm not in that period of time where i care a ton about romance and all that jazz (well, the real life ones, because honestly most of the times, they suck), maybe it's  not the right time, not the right place, but i found this painfully boring. middle school me ate her two other poetry collections so bad but this one was somehow hard to digest. (which is kinda weird actually because it's barely even two years since then. have i really changed that much? in the span of only two years?). and truly, i don't believe it's because of the quality of the book itself. it's just ME. the more one can relate to poetry, the better the poetry is to the person. and i unfortunately couldn't really relate to most of these at all. it also kinda dragged on to be honest. again, maybe it's just because of me, but i also found it a bit... tedious? i just couldn't wait for it to be over.

unfortunately, i do rate books based on my enjoyment and my enjoyment for this one was VERY LOW, so.. 2 stars :/ (12.10.23)

FIRST TIME READ (08.29.16-08.29.16):

Sad Things
Why do you write sad things? he asked. When I am here, when I love you.

Because someday, in one way or another, you will be taken from me or I you. It is inevitable. But please understand; from the moment I met you, I stopped writing for the past. I no longer write for the present. When I write sad things, I am writing for the future.

I've finally realized what it is about Lang Leav that draws me in... Her poetry is that kind of shameless, self-indulging melancholy I AM A HOE FOR ouo Like tumblr posts about how you're sad in high knee socks and the rest of the world just doesn't understand, or photos of pretty, sad girls in bright heels and dangling cigarettes from their fingers. To a lot of people, what I just described sounds stupid and angsty, and it may be but that won't stop me from liking it, like tumblr.

My other favorites from this collection include: A Writer's Plea, Hope, Rogue Planets, Pretext, Wallflower, More Than Love, Signposts, Soundtracks, Metamorphosis.

I was low-key disappointed that there were only two illustrations in this book. More next time, pretty please <3 <3
