This was not one of my favorites in the series. It was very far fetched and a little boring at times. I definitely preferred the movie over this book the storyline is told much better and the main characters are more likable.

Just ok. Story kind of ridiculous. Characters not real likeable. I own the next in the series. Not sure if I'll continue though.

Another good one. It’s a pity I’m reading these in the dead of winter because they’d be good books to read on the beach. I’m not sure how Charlaine Harris manages to make murder mysteries so such fun.

Normally, I’m not much of a Hallmark Movies person. I do watch the channel because I like some of the shows they re-run, which is how I found out about the Aurora Teagarden movies. I had grown tired of the books, but I watched and enjoyed both movies. After seeing the second movie, I was suddenly determined to pick up where I left off in the series.

Once I picked up The Julius House, I remembered why I wasn’t too excited about it. This book was slow going. The first half is all about Roe getting married and moving. Once she’s settled, she abruptly decides to solve the mystery of the Julius family’s disappearance. After that, she starts nosing around, so naturally threatening things begin to happen to her. That’s when the story really starts to pick up. The ending was interesting, and there was a little twist that i didn’t see coming. I enjoyed it, and I’ll keep going with the series. Now when is the next movie?

Picked this up in the middle of the series. Enjoyable - although slightly predictable. (I "solved" this one early on in the story.) Still - the ending felt very rushed and not very developed. There was enough tat was still mysterious about the main characters that I'll probably pick up another one.

Better than the first two. I think the character is improving, but has a way to go. Most of my gripes with Ms. Teagarden are likely due to the time period in which the early books were published.

Interesting story. The twists and turns were nicely segued into.

After getting into the Southern Vampire mysteries last year, I decided to dive into some of Harris's other work. While she's not a bad writer at all (first person narrative is tricky, and she does it well), I took to another of her supernatural series first: The Harper Connelly Mysteries. I loved them. Decided to try out the Aurora Teagarden mysteries. The first book's premise was lovely, but without the famous murder club presented in the first novel (not a spoiler, it's in the title!), it became just a standard mystery novel. That's not to say they're bad, but this one, in particular, held no emotional attachment for me at all, and it took me WEEKS to get through it because nothing really happens for the first half of the novel.

I still enjoy Harris's work, but I think I'll wait for the next Harper & Sookie novels to come out.

RATING: 3 STARS

Wow things move fast with Roe! She is engaged, married and living in a new house. The "new" house comes with a mystery. The Julius house was owned briefly by the Julius family till they vanished one day. They didn't take anything or let anyone know. In fact, the mother-in-law living in the room above the garage didn't even know of there departure. It is a few months till they can legally be called dead, but the estate already was given to the mother-in-law when it was proved they would not be coming back, and she needed to be taken care of. Roe, being Roe, decides to look into the mystery while her new husband suddenly needs to travel for his job. Martin Bartel is also a mystery she needs to figure out. This is an easy mystery to figure out but it is entertaining. I am looking forward to the movie based on this one too.
