A good ending to the novel. Enough people died to make it realistic, while enough survived to leave a strong connection to the story.

‘You think they’re Inapt,’ she noted. ‘They’re not. They don’t believe in my magic, any more than you do. Less than you do, perhaps. They don’t even tell each other stories of when the magic was. But they’re not Apt, either. They don’t believe in your gears and machines. And when they get close, they can stop you believing, too. A world without artifice or magic, that’s the Worm’s world. A world without anything of the human mind.’

“Seal of the Worm” is the tenth and final book of the much underrated Shadows of the Apt series.

Collegium has fallen. The empire is victorious and our remaining characters struggle to survive. I started this series this year and here I am, on the 31st of December, finally completing it. It’s been an amazing, wild ride and I’m so sad to leave this world. Now excuse me as I go cry.

This is how an epic book series should end. It was painful at points as the author kept making things worse before they could get better. But the ending was *exactly "right" for each of the main characters. I absolutely loved the denouement that allowed us to spend some relaxed time in the world before we had to leave it forever. For one of my absolutely favorite authors this series was flawed and uneven, but his growth was obvious over the course of it, and it's easy to understand that the next book he wrote — Children of Time — is one of the best works of Science fiction of the last decade.

I'm very glad I stuck with this series through the slow books; the series is better than the sum of its parts.
