The writing is beautiful but I found the plot line frustrating and I just became too irritated with the characters to enjoy the book.

È la notte del 21 giugno del 1921, l’ultimo e più sanguinoso anno della guerra d’indipendenza irlandese, e siamo nella contea di Cork, passata alla storia come la Rebel County. Il capitano Everard Gault ferisce involontariamente Horahan, un ragazzo che, assieme a due complici, voleva dar fuoco a Lahardane, la casa dove il militare abita con la moglie Heloise e la figlia Lucy. Le conseguenze di quella notte determineranno il destino di tutti loro, in un ampio arco temporale che arriva quasi ai nostri giorni, quando l’Irlanda è diventata una meta turistica che attira “gente da tutto il mondo, viaggiatori come mai era capitato” e, nell’immaginaria città di Enniseala, “la gente cammina per strada parlando al telefono”.

Not for me. There were a few parts of the story I liked but the classical writing style was not my thing at all.
