I came to the comic party late, so this collection of a famous run of comics doesn't have much of an impact on me. I do appreciate how groundbreaking it was at the time and that it changed the DC comics that came after it.
I found the story very creative, but a bit it drawn out.

A necessary book in comic history but dear god was this a slog.
If you want to see this done really well, read Hickman's Fantastic Four/Future Foundation --> Avengers --> New Avengers. Same concept, better execution.
This is an important part of DC history and although the writing was original and solid for the time, it has not held up well at all. I don't doubt that this is a beloved comic amongst long time readers, but if you're in 2017 and beyond this isn't all that important. Just be thankful that it happened and you're not reading Uncle Sam and the super friends from Earth 3 and how they help Batman sometimes or whatever.
Recommended if you like comic history and don't mind a dated comic book that shows its age.

I’m not an avid comic reader at all
Bur after the Cw crisis crossover, I figured I had to read the original comics
And it was incredible! I dont know all the characters but it was still a fun read!
It’s also a bit tricky to read sometimes because the comic change how theyre read page by page

Just too long.
MAJOR SPOILER WARNINGS AHEAD
This book went on too long. I like the building of dread, initially, but it went on for issues before any real plot started. And then there way too many false victories. Using one is a trope, two is an eye roll. Three is absurd. But how many times did they defeat the anti-monitor only to have him not really be defeated? Five? Ridiculous.
The scope of the story was great. The actual plot itself was good, but it was just too freaking long.

The original gigantic crossover, but a little too all over the place for my tastes. It feels like wolf man was trying to hit every current add character, but rather than making it feel like a vast epic, it just feels like a grab bag of random characters, none of who, ever really make an impact.
I understand the significance and importance of Crisis. I know the reason why it was done. I just don’t think it was done well. Also I’m not a super fan of the entire DC catalog. I like and read some DC series but not all of them. I think this would be better for a super fan that reads all or almost all the series by DC.
