When you take a step back and look at the story as a whole, it's a pretty great concept. However, each individual comic that makes up this trade paperback is NOT so great. A lot of the time it seemed like the story wasn't progressing because too many panels were wasted trying to sum up what happened in the previous issue. Granted, the comics were originally released on a monthly basis, so it's understandable. The last four or five issues are by far the best in the whole series and are what made reading this trade paperback worthwhile for me.

A mess. The art is amazing, but in their desire to simplify the DC universe they forgot to rely in well-thought subplots and arguments. So many deus-ex machina: the magicians, somehow, create a green net of mystical force that can retain and somewhat modify Anti-monitor grey monsters so that they weaken him instead of increasing his power. Also the sudden help from Darkseid using Luthor's eyes as beams of energy, and Luthor enclosing Lois Lane in his being to keep her from disappearing. The use of a laughable, one-dimensional villain who just. won't. die. was the last straw. Like, I know what they were trying to do, and I respect the idea and the effort, but the reading is tedious and insipid.

Good, but difficult read. Lots of DC backstory for the die hard fans. But dang, those pages were busy.

I love George Perez art. So I went in knowing this book would be beautiful. The story centers around the multiverse being slowly destroyed. Now only down to 4 Earths, the heroes and villains must come together to stop the destruction.
The overall plot is fun. However the 12 issues seemed to be too much to tell a 6 issue story. I did find myself skipping side character dialogues to get back to characters I thought were more interesting.
In the comic realm this is a must read. However I don't think this is a "must buy."

Great story, although it could have used a bit more thought in translating the comic to prose, some "scenes" just rush by and could have been developed further. Spelling and grammatical errors are too numerous to keep track of, but it is still a very fun read. I would recommend this to a friend.
