This was painful. I know I should love it because comics history, etc etc, but....wow.

Also, I understand why they did it, but the multiverse is so cool and interesting, watching all those worlds disappear hurt in more ways than one.

The prose novel as opposed to the graphic novel / maxiseries. Enjoyable, but if the original series didn't blow you away, it's probably not for you.

Large and grand. Unmatched is scale. Looks outstanding. Did what it set out to do, reset the whole universe, but the story fell behind in some that. Wish more character work had been done to Harbinger or Monitor or Anti-Monitor.

2.5 rounded to 3 for a number of reasons which I will write about when I can do so using a real keyboard and not my phone.

What a glorious mess!

It's odd reading a comic written in 1985, and knowing one of the reasons was to simplify the world of DC Comics by getting rid of the multiverse, when in today's world DC Comics has switched back to the way things were. Multiple worlds with many characters. It's not like streamlining the multiverse into one single universe was a bad idea. It was a great story, but it's funny how DC Comics slowly made it's way back to how things used to be. It's funny how readers' and writers's tastes change and churn.

Too many false endings and the middle really lagged, but overall an awesome story.

I read this and Nick Drnaso’s Sabrina on the same day for total comics whiplash.

Well, I think this one is a lot more interesting as a story outside the story than it is fun to read.

I give it credit, the in-comic reset is an interesting idea, and I think Marv Wolfman’s intent, to give a new generation of readers the ability to know what the fuck was going on in DC without reading 25 years of comics, this is a good idea.

You know what’s weird? This is a story in which a couple established characters are replaced with new versions, but it’s not like earth-2 Wildcat becomes the new Wildcat on merged earth. The Earth 1 Wildcat is injured and replaced by some lady. I thought it was sort of odd because if you wanted to replace a character, this was like the ultimate opportunity. Earths merge, dudes are replaced by ladies, whatever, right?

I’m reading more dc this year. This is probably the starting point. But now I’m wondering if I should fast forward a bit…
