A whimsical cutie garden dream! I wish I had these little sprites around 😭✨️ the MC reminded me of Rose from Steven Universe. Loved the very simple plot that was still meaningful and absolutely gorgeous illustrations.
the art is so so pretty and it’s just so warm and sweet and i’m obsessed <3
I absolutely love this book! Not only is it the most beautiful graphic I've ever seen, but the sweet little story is excellently fleshed out. If you're not a fan of rave reviews simply skip all of the rest and go pick up this book. However if you can stomach such giddy merriment, I'm about to tell you exactly why I love this book so much and why you will too.
Right from page one this book sets up a lovely bit of lore about the sprites and then you are introduced to a small but vibrant cast of characters I instantly fell in love with, despite graphic novels generally not having the time and space for much characterization of larger casts the authors of this book were able to give their characters so much personality that all the local sprites felt like individuals. The artwork clearly takes inspiration from manga and often reminds me of a magical girl style anime the artist was clearly able to make the style feel unique and magical.
The magic of the sprites is so beautiful and charming that I found myself just as expected as the characters to watch the garden bloom one success at a time. Though I was expecting this story to be a little flat, all sunshine and rainbows with not a cloud in the sky, it was not. There is just enough conflict and complexity to the characters to keep the narrative interesting and encouraging as a short graphic novel can allow.
Now I've sung the praises of the artwork, the story and the characters I want to share with you some extras that I was not expecting to find in my copy of this book. These aren't exactly spoilers as this is concerning bonus content and not the actual story, however if you would also like the charm of being surprised by it then please feel free to skip to the final paragraph.
This is a debut book from both of the authors I was delighted to see that at the end of the story the book contains some of the process including initial sketches, character designs, storyboards, concept art and notes from both authors.
In conclusion, this book sits pride and place on my bookcase as a perfect spring and summer read to enjoy and admire out in my garden. If you would like a wholesome and magical read I recommend you pick this up.
