I really enjoyed this book! I loved the setting, the characters, and the premise. The story felt unique while also being a classic fantasy storyline. The characters felt authentic and relatable.

This book… was fricken amazing. It felt like a mash of the secret garden, Percy Jackson and little shop of horror.

Bri has always had power over plants and at birth was adopted by her two amazing mothers(who imo steal the show and are one of the best parts of this whole book).  Knowing nothing of her heritage, she is one day approached by an attorney who tells that her biological aunt has died. Left now in Bri’s possession is a massive house with all her birth families history in it. Curious to find out more about her powers and birth family, Bri and her moms decide to move to the house to help Bri connect to her powers and birth family. But all the sudden strange people start showing up, asking questions and demanding things Bri had no idea ever existed. The house and her birth family hold a secret that goes as far back to the Greek gods. And now as the last of her line, it is Bri’s secret to uncover and carry forward.

The characters in this poison hearts were all so amazing and fleshed out. I loved Bri’s moms they made the book for me. The way they loved Bri and each other so much.

So good!!! I was hooked from the first page even though the real plot didn’t pick up for a while. I didn’t even notice! How could l when the this is basically a fantasy version of The Inheritance Games? The one thing that did not grip me is the immortal love interest 1) because I feel like there wasn’t enough of a build up and it was very sudden  2) because a 375 year old who looks like a 17 year old dating real 17 year old is creep as heck. 5🌟

I was a little bit nervous picking this one up after not really enjoying Cinderella Is Dead, but it really surprised me. This is an urban fantasy story about a teen adoptee with plant powers and an immunity to poison who inherits a mysterious mansion from her birth mother. The powers are interesting and feel unique as we learn about them along with Briseis, and the mystery and gothic feel are compelling. I really liked most of the characters, particularly Briseis and her moms, who have a really great relationship. The romance is a little silly but it gets the job done.

I'm knocking off a star because the pacing got weird near the end (it's a bit of a slow mystery following a trail of breadcrumbs and then in the last 20 pages or so about 4000 things happen) but overall this was a huge improvement and I'm looking forward to the sequel.
