I am on the fence on how I feel about this book. The world itself is creative, interesting, and fucked in so many shitty ways. There's a lot that needs to be fixed so I definitely want to see how all this will end.

Now, the hard part. I absolutely hate Knox. I know the author warned ahead of time, but I don't see how he will change. I don't want to read more of him when he's just an egotistical maniac. I get where's he's coming from in grief, but to take it out on Aria, just no. And everything he did to her, just again no. She better end up with someone better.

Life is a bitch, and you can let it destroy you, or you can face it head-on and show that it doesn’t define who you choose to become in life.”

“You won’t keep me, Knox. I am Aria fucking Hecate. I am a survivor. War is in my veins, and I assure you, if you do this, I will escape you. I will fight against you. I will always fight for my family. It’s in my blood and burned into my bones to protect them."

I choose my fate and my chaos, and what I allow to happen to me is on me, no one else."

“I’m a woman, Knox. We only need a few minutes to rain hell down upon men."

Now to the best parts of the book, Aria and her sisters. I adore the fire and the strength Aria has. She learns and grows. She adapts to her surroundings and never breaks for anything. She is loyal and will burn down the world for those she loves. I have hated seeing her be abused and taken advantage of. Knox has no idea what he is losing because of his quest for revenge.

The world building is also absolutely amazing. It's complicated with so many issues and underlying complexities. I want to see the rest of the Nine Realms. I want to see all the beauty and darkness they hold.

The writing of the dialogue is probably what I hated the most. It was just bad. As much as I loved Aria, the back and forth with Knox made me roll my eyes. It just wasn't that good. I wish it had been better and less repetitive.

Still, I'm going to keep reading. I want to see Aria burn the world down against Knox and all those Witches who betrayed the bloodline and rules put in place.

Was this book good? I don't know. The plot got forgotten about, half of the time the story didn't make sense or it contradicted itself. But I couldn't stop reading it??? I literally kept saying this is so bad and yet, I couldn't put it down.

I picked this up thinking that it was just going to be a fun lengthy fantasy and didn’t do much research on it beforehand. As one can guess, I was very wrong. I was not prepared for the dark romance elements of this book and I highly recommend that one checks trigger warnings and does research before delving into this.
Some folks love dark romance with these very strong sexual elements but I’ve learned I’m not one of these people. To each their own, this just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Ew. Basically a rip off ACOTAR. Mature themes but the writing was childish and the book was filled with sexism, internalised misogny and slutshaming from the first page. Reads like a 12 year olds first wattpad novel after watching twilight especially bc of her silver hair (bfr), colour changing eyes, magically hairless body and her 5ft 3 status. Seriously, one of the characters is called Luna and she's an alpha werewolf. This got boring rq and the sexualisation of the fmc including the constant pointing out of the fact that shes an innocent virgin  who desperately needs to have sex according to literally everyone was really irritating. She was also bitchy to/ abou  every other female in the story. And the author literally only threw in the mothers abuse for pity points-so it seems as it was so badly written. The plot and worldbuilding is a raggedy thread barely holding the sexual assault/ harassment scenes together.  Also surprise surprise she has never felt this way about a (blue eyed blonde haired who's a towering giant with tattoos and plenty of money oh and also the king obviously! ) man before. Lastly the ml is a weirdo - " you're starting to look like a murder victim it's giving me a hard on "   , " you're definitely a virgin - your pureness is very rare" who specialised in toxic and borderline if not abusive relationships . Wouldn't recommend.

I’m going to be honest with you - this is not a good book. In fact at best the treatment of women in this is fucking disgusting. But am I going to read the next one? Hell yeah.

Flames of Chaos is definitely chaotic. The story seems very chunky, there could have been smoother transitions and I wish it had taken a little more for the characters to love/hate one another.

The writing is truly terrible. At least half of the paragraphs are simply restatements of the previous paragraph, as though the author wrote out the concept in different ways and for some reason never deleted the drafts. Every other word is “f*ck” as though the author thinks that makes up for a lack of creative dialogue. There are several times where the ridiculousness of what is written fully rips you out of the book. The is almost no plot for the first 90% of the book, and each scene is just another setting up for more sex. Definitely read the content warnings. None of the periphery or side characters develop a personality until the end of the book, when you kind of think you may eventually like one or two of them. I almost dnf’d several times, but other reviews insisted it was worth slogging through to the end.

Despite all of this, the last 10% of the book finally remembers that plot is a thing and sweeps you up into an actual story. I will read the second one, but with the lowest possible expectations.

I have absolutely no idea how this book made it to print. It feels like an author sat down with a bottle of wine and wrote it in a night?
I feel like, had it had time and energy spent in it, it could have had real meaning and substance. Except it was all f*** and c*** which isn't really a plot? And heavens, don't get me started on the dialogue, four pages of back and forth that could have been half a page.
Bottom line, just as everyone says, the only reason I made it this far was because it was a train wreck I couldn't look away from. Buh-bye.
