I wasn't completely sold on this book, but it was ok enough for me to decide to read the next book, mostly because it ended on a cliffhanger, and I must know what happens after that. I will say, by book I was over it and I refuse to read the rest...which never happens. If I invest that much time in a series, I will generally continue because I don't like the wasted time. 
I just could not bet into this one. It gets stars because it made me move to the next book.

Terrible. I nearly dnf several times. The world could be interesting but you can’t really tell because the characters are horrible and I hated them all. They never get better. There’s plenty of smut but it’s honestly gross because both characters just suck. Do not recommend.

By far the absolute crudest book I’ve ever read. I can’t honestly say I recommend it or that it is good writing, but obviously I finished it and it has a certain trashy flair I guess. Some of the tropes are fun (even though it’s also all totally over the top/overdone/really slaps you in the face). I’m hooked enough on the plot to want to keep reading the series, but can’t say I’ll ever reread or recommend it.

I liked this book in the sense that the plot and conflict is very interesting. I also love the world/9 realms created. I also found myself somewhat liking the characters though very flawed.
I did NOT however like the very graphic forms of sexual assault/rape/abuse described in this book. I don’t necessarily understand the reason to graphically explain that kind of thing. I feel that part could have been done a little less explicitly because like the explanations are so overly done…like we get it. It doesn’t have to be forcefully stamped in my mind what is going on in that regard. So I skimmed all that crap because tis unnecessary.
Other than the overexplaining I like the plot and world building. I am hoping for better character development as well.

I’m going to be honest with you - this is not a good book. In fact at best the treatment of women in this is fucking disgusting. But am I going to read the next one? Hell yeah.

Flames of Chaos is definitely chaotic. The story seems very chunky, there could have been smoother transitions and I wish it had taken a little more for the characters to love/hate one another.
