This book was funny, in fact I laughed quite a lot, but a lot of it seemed a bit “grumpy old man” to me. In the age of the blog and it’s immediate feedback, it all just seemed, well, passe (I hate myself a little for typing that). What I mean, is that if you have an axe to grind there is twitter, facebook and the numerous blogs out there where people are offering up their opinion all the time. The book is a compilation of articles written by Bryson for a british newspaper after he moved back to the US after 20 (?) years, and to be fair, back then (1997) it may have been quite novel, but now the gripes are quite common and seem to be key things people bring up when wanting to have a wee moan about the USA.

An enjoyable collection of newspaper articles previously published in a Brit paper by an American-come-Briton who had returned to America. Short, quirky articles that are fun without being alienating. Enjoyably out-dated.
