Not one of his best.

I felt as if I could have written this book- Observations on how dumb Americans are.
Its not like he is bashing on America or anything, just making rather lame comments on how we live and such.
I mean, agree with him on some things, but this just didn't make for a compelling read.
Bryson originally ran the stories that make up this as a newspaper column every week ( I think). If I had first come across these then, I think I would have rather enjoyed them for their simplicity and humor. But read all together back to back is just to much!
I'll take "A short history of nearly everything" over this any day!

I do have to say this though: Bill Bryson seems like a super nice guy and I want to be his neighbor! And especially neighbor with his wife because she has a British accent. Ohhh I bet his kids do too!

Another one I listened to audio, and it did not disappoint. There were lots of laugh out loud moments. :-)
funny informative lighthearted

A little outdated, but still a fun read/listen (audiobook from the library). Remember when Y2K was a thing?
funny lighthearted fast-paced

50% charming, 25% boring, 25% exasperating. My first Bill Bryson book and it definitely won't be my last. His writing is full of humor, but the nips at the US and it's politics during several of the essays just wasn't for me.
funny informative lighthearted reflective relaxing medium-paced

I always enjoy Bill Bryson; what I found interesting here is how a book written in the late 90s still feel so applicable.
