Crucial for understanding the scope of the Vietnam War and just how far the US government went to cover up war crimes. A truly haunting read that traces the lineage of colonialism and imperialism to present day with the rhetoric surrounding Israel’s and the west’s genocide in Palestine.

I found the writing overwhelming and a little too complicated for a book that is supposed to share info for the masses about the US atrocities. I also didn’t feel like I gained much extra knowledge from reading it so in the end it just isn’t worth the trouble. It did not meet expectations! Bye!

Should be required reading for anyone who wants to discuss the Vietnam War. Every page feels slick with blood, each paragraph so loaded with descriptions of massacres and torture and every heinous act conceived of by mankind. You are left with a lingering horror and disgust not just for America, but for humanity as a whole. This is far from the first time soldiers enacted years of horrors upon occupied people, after all. How can millions of average men be made complicit in such horrors? Would you be capable of such evil, too, given the right set of circumstances?

devastating. how anyone points to america as the moral compass for the rest of the world when something like this has been committed by us in such recent history is beyond me. not to mention all the vile war crimes we’ve committed and enabled since then. reading this now, during the ongoing genocide in palestine, it’s impossible to ignore the parallels between america and israel.

Brutal and vital. Read it slowly and carefully, and consider that very little time has passed since then, without consequences for the military structures that perpetuated these atrocities.

Shocking and deeply upsetting even to those who would consider themselves well informed about America's involvement in Vietnam in the 60s.
