This book should be 500 pages longer just to start scratching the surface, but if you’re unaware of the kind of war crimes that the US committed in Vietnam, prepare for a quick introduction. It’s important to understand that the basis of how the US military assesses success and conducts operations has not developed much past the Vietnam war. This should accompany any history lesson of the Vietnam War.

I knew some of the atrocities that happened during the American War in Vietnam but reading this made me realize just how ignorant the American public is about foreign wars- especially in the 20th century. Nothing, I repeat, nothing is more disgusting than the repugnant, inhuman glee that men have at any chance to have unchecked power over someone they think is lower than them. I will never look at a veteran from that war the same ever again.

I agree with the reviewer who stated: “Book reads as a summary of massacres.” Very hard to read, but a very important read. I went in without knowing the type of book and think I would’ve been better served starting with a book understanding the war itself, but this was still a very important read hearing about the absolute atrocities that took place by the US.
