3.29 AVERAGE

3.5 rating: The story was ok, it was sad overall, but I found most of the characters unlikable. When I finished the book, the story still felt a little unfinished? I’m not sure, maybe because to me it felt like many issues were unanswered or unnecessary issues unanswered.

3.5 - not exactly a new concept, but a solid crisis story told from multiple perspectives. didn't delve particularly deeply with any one character, but managed to keep me turning the pages. i enjoyed her depictions of the young children in the story, and liked that it was something totally different than her other works.

I thought this book was okay. At the beginning, I had a hard time connecting which children belonged with the two main sets of families. The book was a quick read. I didn’t find myself drawn to the characters. The original review I wrote just after reading the book did not save and now three weeks later, there isn’t much I have to say that is detailed or positive.

Too unlikely and American-centric

I picked this book up blind at the library, like I like to do every so often, literally "judging a book by its cover" and I was pleasantly surprised with it. The story is about how 3 families deal when their children go missing in South America after going onshore during a cruise, from both the parents' and the childrens' perspectives. A fast-paced read as you're constantly revolving through the perspectives of the many characters, I thought the best thing about this book was the reflection on what it meant to have children who are literally your heart and soul walking around outside of your body. How when they're missing you'd do anything to get them back, but being the multifaceted creatures that we are, life isn't always perfect when we do.

For as heart wrenching as the subject matter was, I do feel like it was a bit of a superficial story, not quite striking an emotional chord in me, even when bad things happen. An enjoyable beach read for those of us who aren't big on mysteries where you don't know what happened or superfluous romance.

This is the beach read for your friend who likes the paperbacks, but could really use something with some emotional and ethical complexity

I tried the audio version and it was dull despite what should have been an interesting storyline. I saw the book at the library to finish, just to see if the kids were rescued and flew right though it.

In short: decent but not spectacular book...definitely read it, not audio.

This book has really stayed with me. Suspenseful and surprising. I was perpetually putting myself in the characters' shoes. I listened to and thoroughly enjoyed the audiobook.

Great thriller- I couldn't put it down!

This novel is told from multiple POVs, something I really enjoy in works of fiction. It's suspenseful, heartbreaking, and shocking.

The only thing I'd advise against is listening to the audiobook version. The narrator's voice is a little too saccharine for me.
