I loved this book! It kept me wanting to read, having a hard time putting it down. I haven't read a book this quickly in a very long time. Can't wait to read more by this author!

A suspenseful family drama that kept me turning pages but somehow at the same time failed to grab me. I guess I didn't like the characters (especially the adults) and therefore didn't really feel affected when they experienced bad or good news.

This book has a little bit of everything in terms of themes: trust, truth, immigration, poverty, third world tourism, assault, infidelity. I felt a bit like some of the plot was developed just to touch on these themes and couldn't really understand the characters actions that led them to the situations they found themselves in.

Mystery/Detective/Suspense novels are my guilty pleasure and that is one of the reasons I wanted so bad to read this novel; that and the fact that I like Meloy's narrative... and even though the novel had me hanging on a thread and screaming a few OMG's here and there, I feel this novel falls a bit apart at the end.

Meloy hints here and there and tries hard to bring attention to some current issues, but at the end this whole chain of incidents is handled the American way.

More like 4.25 or so.

I felt like George’s reaction to Maria taking the kids and then telling Raul didn’t fit with his character.

I couldn’t put this one down. I liked reading all the different perspectives, including the kids’.

3.6 stars. Good pacing, I liked the different points of view. I had trouble connecting to Liv and Nora. Neither one seemed to develop much.

Once I picked up this book, I had a hard time putting it down. I enjoyed that each chapter was told from a different character's perspective. Great summer beach read!

OK, I wanted to like this book -- it had a good premise. But the lead-up to it is something that would NEVER HAVE HAPPENED, unless you happened to book a cruise with a fourth-world country, which, since these people all have money, would never have happened. Since the whole plot flows from a ridiculous premise, it's hard to take it seriously.

4.5 stars. Very engaging story, and one of the best books I've read for a long time written from multiple perspectives.

Exciting read. Lots of kid peril and heavy situations however.
