I actually really enjoyed this book. It was fun, intriguing, exciting, and a page turner, at times. Overall, this is a great book to read, unless you're on a cruise!

I find so many good books on the bargain shelf at Barnes and Nobles; this was one of them. This is one of those stories that parents fear most, your kids disappearing during vacation. This kept me intrigued and cheering for these kids to get back to their families. I feel it kind of petered out at the end but over all I enjoyed this book.

For the most part, I liked the story. However, I did not like that that story is read by the author.

This was honestly a quick read once I really got down to it. It’s a good look at how American’s view their relative safety in the world at large, but often characters made decisions or said things that were totally unrealistic. At one point, sitting on the train, I literally read a line and said out loud “what the f*ck?!” because it was seriously that jarring / distracting from the overarching narrative. That said, it was an overall enjoyable read, but could have used a couple more chapters to resolve the narrative.

There are a lot of layers going on in this story. I didn't feel attached to the characters, but I did connect to the message woven in.

I don't give many one-stars, but I am here because I'd absolutely never recommend this book and would actively discourage friends I hear interested in in reading it. The topics it covers are just addressed too flippantly - either through the voices of children or through the absolutely grating voices of the parents. The author's characterization relies much too heavily on stereotypes - most of which are never challenged and instead serve as a lazy shorthand. And there's not satisyfing growth for most (any?) of the characters by the end of the ordeal, which makes it all feel gratuitous. I only finished this because I'd DNFed the previous book I'd tried to read and felt like I needed to just finish something and get out of a slump.

What a load of gringa nonsense.

dull. gave up after 50 pages

Lots of meh things about this book. The action and suspense were pretty spot on, but resolution felt pretty flat.
