some thoughts:

- this started out somewhat promising and I was really excited in the beginning when they went to Novyi Zem because it’s a country we don’t know a lot about but then they immediately left again to go back to Ravka AGAIN
- Nikolai is fun! Would’ve loved to see more of him!
- I thought we would spend more time with his Sturmhond persona on the funky pirate (privateer, sorry) ship tbh. I don’t know if that is because I’ve only known him as Sturmhond for the past 4 years or because I am not immune to sea adventures and secret identities but it didn’t happen anyway so. Hm.
- imagine having the whole little palace at your feet and still choosing the former darkling‘s rooms like?? they made you commander if you don’t want to sleep there just say it girl
- speaking of commander, I am so glad the netflix show aged these people up thank god
- speaking of the show, I was pretty bored for huge chunks of this book (what even happened. Did anything happen) but at the same time it has the potential to work a lot better in the show and I am super intrigued what they will make out of it, especially if they take the time to explore some of the themes more deeply like the cult around the sun summoner or Alina‘s inner conflict with power.
- Tamar <3
- whenever Kerch or Ketterdam is mentioned I’m like!! Maybe I should reread six of crows again (I won’t. unless)
- I have nothing to say about Mal, he was just There™
- it’s pretty clear this is mostly a filler book to get to the important plot points in book 3 but I’m just not invested enough in a lot of the side characters to read another little palace training arc

I have to wait a few weeks for the 3rd book which is a blessing because i need a break after this but I genuinely hope it will be more exciting than this

I've seen a lot of people say Siege and Storm is their least favorite in the trilogy but personally, I love it just as much as Shadow and Bone! It was quite action packed and it also focused on the political parts of the Grishverse which I enjoyed!
I loved how it showed Alina is discovering her “dark side”. Again, Mal and Alina’s relationship got a bit rocky. They have to work on their communication skills ASAP lolol
Sturmhond AKA Nikolai was a character I adored reading about. In general I like reading about new characters but, his overall character and personality was refreshing :)

'Siege and Storm' by Leigh Bardugo is a fantastic sequel to 'Shadow and Bone' as it builds upon the characters and world first presented in the first installment. There is very little I can discuss around the plot without getting into spoilers but I will say that I think it did an excellent job on showing us new sides to familiar characters and exploring more about Ravka and its history.
In this book, I particularly like how Bardugo discusses religion and what it means to be considered a living saint. From where this book ends, I believe we will be seeing even more of this in the final book. One of the things I appreciate about this trilogy is that Bardugo allows Alina to be a messy, flawed character. The decisions she makes are hard to agree with at times but her complexity also makes her more believable. This is true of the characters she is surrounded by as well.
We see a lot of tragedy in this book and it is very hard to witness. I fear there will be even more to come in the next installment though I also have hope. I trust Bardugo and her storytelling to deliver a satisfying ending. I cannot wait to pick up 'Ruin and Rising.'

The second installment of the Shadow and Bone series was a whirlwind and I loved it. This is also your friendly reminder to read the books before April when the Netflix series premieres! For such a big book, there isn’t much action in this one, but I am anticipating that tons of action will be present in the final book of the trilogy.

I won’t give away the synopsis as it will definitely spoil the first book, but Siege and Storm continues to follow a young woman named Alina who finds that she possesses magical powers. There are a few new characters introduced as well and while these new characters are super fun, my favorite is still Alina.

Hella angsty. Slower than the first book, a lot more planning/political stuff going on. I like alina more in this. She got more spunk. I don't know how I feel about Nikolai. I mean, he's a charming bastard but also he did
kiss alina without her consent. (Would have love to see her hit him one more time).
Also I could've sworn that bardugo was setting up Tamar to be the 4th love interest cuz I was getting some girl in red vibes from her.
The action scenes were really exciting and tense and I wish we could've seen more of them but overall I enjoyed the sequel. The little bits of foreshadowing were so fun! Just enough to give you a hint of something but not so much that you can completely predict what might happen.
