Gotta love a plot twists, mind games and an intelligent villain! Unfortunately, those elements weren't enough for me to love this book.

I listened to the audiobook, which was well acted, if a bit slowly spoken. At times, that made the pace of the book feel longer than it needed to be. The first half of the book also felt like a really long lead-up before things got going.

This was my first time reading a book by McFadden. I see other reviews mention that this isn't her best work, so I'll try to do some homework about which of her other titles are higher rated, and maybe try a different one.

Kinda hard to like or root for Blake. Then again, I wasn't really feeling like Krista and Whitney were very likeable for most of the book either.

I guessed what was going on from the beginning, but I still finished this in one night so what does that say about me? Lol. Also, in this economy does stuff like this really matter? “The first day at the temp job goes as well as it possibly could. I mean, considering my job is basically to do filing and data entry for people who are five years younger than me.” (70) Maybe I’m biased because I’m unemployed but an income is an income my man, like who cares???? Maybe Frieda is trying to illustrate how prideful and egotistical cis men are in our society but booohooooo, I didn’t feel sorry for him that he was able to find another job and pay his bills lol. Plus five years younger than you? That’s barely a difference.

So there’s just a bunch of little things with the way that Frieda writes (like the above) that bug me, but overall, I found this story predictable, derivative (even of like, her other work too. Fine, plagiarize yourself but sheesh!). I imagine Blake sitting around with his future buddies saying, “women, amirite?” 🥲 Women are *allowed* to be the villains, but in today’s red-pill-filled-zeitgeist, I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at the idea of the scorned woman over infidelity. Sure, it CAN be devastating but omfg, women today are tiiiiiiiiiired. I also think painting people as psychopaths or sociopaths is just so overdone in thrillers idk!!!!

Anyway, who cares because I clearly keep reading Frieda’s books hahahahahahahahaha

This book makes me think of the card game called Cockroach Poker. What? You’ve never played it before? Ok,here’s the premise: There is no winner and there’s only one loser. Yep. That’s what this book is like. 😆 Well,I read a Freida McFadden. The chapters were like potato chips. I hated every character. The twists were twisting. Was it a mystery? No. Was it a thriller? Also,no. My husband asked me multiple times if I was ok because my face was visibly horrified while reading this. 😆😆😜🙃Will I read another one of these? Probably not. But damn, if it wasn’t a crazy time.
