I love seeing the start of Nana and Hachi and their wholesome day of shopping. (I know the wholesome wont last so im clinging on for dear life)
So glad we had less Shoji in this one and more Yasu..

Well, sparks did fly, just not that much.
The narration of the meeting of the two Nanas speaks to their (presumably) distant future where they've grown close enough to be bosom buddies, but their first meeting is that of ships passing in the fog, chilling for a bit while rooting their horns, and then moving on with the expectation of never meeting again.
Of course they do, as we all knew, and volume 2 is mainly concerned with their arrival in Tokyo, meeting, and setting out to live together in this strange new city, the differences in personality giving start to a myrrhiad of jokes and funny clashes.
The boys of their past still haunt them, Nana the rocker haunted by the pain and Nana the puppy dog not actually haunted but in love, so much love, that if her boyfriend didn't oppose it, she'd be starting her own tradwife channel in no time.
Frankly, I couldn't wait for their breakup, not because of any ill will towards either of them, but because even at their most challenging, their story still sounded like the least thrilling one.
Though there's hardly any thrills here, which I think is actually appropriate, as it is a tiny slice of life of the birth of a relationship between these two young people (though any hope for lesbianism is quickly shut down by some homophobic jokes painting it as bad as murder). And to be fair, the relationship the not-punk Nana has works to show that what we dream of is rarely such once achieved, and a complicating factor clashing with her aloofness.
The book’s quiet and nice with glimmers of affection and the real world, but having now witnessed Nanas meeting each other, and seeing the probable pathway forward, I'm not entirely sure how excited for more I am. Interested, sure, but I think we can all figure where this story is going in the broad strokes.
But ehh, the devil’s in the details, so let's push on and see what happens. Sparks are still bound to fly.
