This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free from the PR Agency in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Damn you! God Damn you Melissa! I have literally just finished this book and I don’t know what to do. I know you warned us that this book was going to gut us but man I was not prepared. I thought I was but I was wrong. So wrong.

Ever since I read Tru Blue I’ve been watching Quincy get his life together. He’s been working so damn hard to make up for all his mistakes and I am so proud of him. Quincy has become the man he always had inside. He may think that Tru has always had it all together but Quincy has been through hell and come out the other side a man.

Roni, oh sweet Roni. There were times when I wanted to just give you a big hug and times when I just wanted to celebrate all your milestones with Quincy. Roni is just so adorable. It’s easy to see why Quincy falls for her

These two are so damn perfect for each other. They have both been through so much that I just now want them to be happy and get everything they desire. I think they just became my new favourite couple!

It was great to catch up with the rest of the Whiskey gang. It was nice to see some new faces join the group too. I can’t wait for more books and more love stories.

The Gritty Truth
The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor
By: Melissa Foster
Narrated by: Jennifer Mack, Jacob Morgan

When we met Quincy in Tru Blue, I was hoping he was going to get his own story and was thrilled to be able to listen! Quincy has had it hard. A terrible childhood with a mother who not only neglected him but turned him to drugs left him on a path to destruction. The only light is his older brother Tru who does his best to help him. Now after hitting rock bottom, he is ready to start living again. When he meets Roni, he is taken with her and is ready to pursue. Roni is a tough cookie! She is insecure with herself, and is unsure anyone will ever love her. But this Quincy does what he can to prove her wrong. The only thing is once a drug addict, anything could trigger Quincy back down the dark road. Will she be able to live with that? Will he accept her as she is? Will he resort back to his habit? This is a beautifully sweet story and Melissa Foster knows exactly how to tell it. Tugging my heart strings, making me love these two, she lets me fall in love while dealing with real life issues. I love her books, always giving me that feeling of community, and this one gives us the Whiskey's in full force! It's like coming home and enjoying my time with the Dark Knights. It's another fantastic addition to the series and my favorite so far!

Jacob Morgan and Jennifer Mack team up to give us this beautiful love story to our ears. They are perfectly cast. Morgan is a talent, and he falls into character as Quincy, the loving man, recovering addict perfectly. He gives him an honest feel, and we know exactly where he stands with his inflections. Mack comes in as a slightly insecure Roni, and we get to hear her gain confidence with the nuances Mack uses. It's a great listen and I would love more from these two.

Wow, so much to say about this newest book by Melissa Foster and not give away any spoilers! Gonna be tough. I was personally reluctant to read this because of two reasons, 1-I hadn’t read Tru’s book until right before getting this one and 2-I wasn’t emotionally ready to read them. But, I am so thankful that I did read Tru’s book and now Quincy’s. Such a beautiful story or recovery, love, and family. Who could want for anything more? Melissa does a fantastic job of writing. Her characters are beautiful, smart, sassy, sexy, and oh so loving. I forgot to mention they typically face very real troubles while managing to find love and the courage to overcome/meet their demons head on. This story is so full of love and support from family and friends, it is just amazing. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. *****

I was rooting for Quincy from Truman's book. My heart broke for the lost boy/man he became after Truman went to jail. The love these 2 kids had for each other and the pain they endured was truly heartbreaking, but they both fought to come out the other side!

Roni also had to endure heartbreak. She lost her future as a dancer. She fought back and learned to walk and eventually dance.

Quincy fell for the beautiful dancer. He didn’t want to jump into a relationship with her until he was at least 2 years clean. He also didn't just want her physically, he wanted her as a friend first.
Melissa Foster has always written characters that strong. Most of her characters had dealt with horrific tragedy in their past. And she doesn’t disappoint with Quincy’s book. I don’t like to read about addicts/drugs use etc. But Quincy’s book is soo much more! She handles this topic with grace and truth. She didn’t brush off his recovery or has him never talk about his past. She dives right into the truth about addiction and recovery. And it just makes you love Quincy more!

Quincy is loving, caring, and puts his recovery first as an addict should. He knows it’s a long road that will never end and he does everything to stay the straight path. And the love the Whiskey family has for him and how they support him is just, swoon!

This book just blew me away! It was just everything you want in Quincy’s story. Thank you, Melissa Foster for writing a beautiful story for Quincy and Roni!

The found family through this book is so beautiful. It’s my first book by Melissa Foster and I’m going to have to go and read previous books because I want to spend more time with all of these characters.

One scene where Quincy goes to Red and Briggs (the mom and dad of the found family) had me in tears:

He says to them: “If you don’t mind, I’d appreciate just sitting here for a bit, talking or not. It feels good to know I’m welcome.” I’m sure if you’ve read the previous books this will hit you harder than it did me. But boy did it hit me.

While it’s a romance, it is so much more.

Be prepared to get ripped up, spit out and put back together several times while you're reading this book. It's raw and open about tough topics. Recovery is a process that takes a lifetime and addiction is a beast that's always lurking. Quincy Gritt has fought hard to get where his is, two years clean. And now he's ready for his next step, taking on Roni whose yet to claim the date she won in the charity auction at Whiskey Bros. The draw he felt for her has only gotten stronger as they spend time texting over the last several months.
Veronica “Roni” Wescott had spent her whole life dancing. Which is one of the main reasons she gets so flustered by Quincy, he is definitely more than she's used to. And as she's continues to work to improve her life after a tragic accident she's still fearful of taking the steps into a relationship, until Quincy shows her how magical they can be together.
And when Quincy reveals his tormented past the decision is on Roni to accept the dark and open them up to the light. Because the demons are going to be lurking and the past sometimes comes back to take a bite out of your future.

I have been waiting for Quincy’s story since Tru Blue and it was so worth the wait! Quincy and Roni were perfect for each other. I loved watching their relationship develop and watching the two of them heal. Like all of Melissa’s books, this was beautifully written. It was a wonderful addition to my favorite family’s series!
