Fascinating but maybe at times didn’t go into detail about some confounding information or statistics which would have otherwise given it some more depth but also maybe less readability

Equal parts history, science and memoir. My interest waned during the chapters on mescaline but otherwise found the book engaging.

Interesting personal insights and history but not much scientific fact. I also don’t love the vibe of the author. He seems quite dismissive to women (at best) including saying ladies wouldn’t do drugs and if they did, they would be less likely to experience the increased perception he achieved through psychedelics.

so so interesting, especially about caffeine (unexpectedly), and how it is actually a drug we have all become addicted to, yet our addiction that has fueled the advancement of capitalism now has consequences that are destroying the grow of coffee plants. Also loved the mescaline chapter, and am looking forward to reading more about psychedelics.
