Amazing and intricate world building. I didn't hear any of the hype and went in to the story based on other people's reviews and recommendations. With over 3k reviews, there is nothing I can really add at this point. Its a long book so its hard to capture everything, but I have to say I enjoy the wry humor I find every so often. The characters introspection is so enlightening.

I am immersed in the No Peak Clan, from Anden growing up in Espenia to Hilo embracing the children and future of his Clan. It was awful what happened to Niko's mother but Hilo has no one to tell him no. He has to make judgements for thousands of people and for their future. Not right, just understood. Wen is a breath of fresh air but what an ending here for her!! Wondering where this will go.

Loved this from Hilo:
“You think I’m going to interrogate him? Make him fight me? Wen and I are just glad to have an excuse to get away from the kids for a few hours.”

Shae- it's so sad, her path as Weatherman. I was SO rooting for her to fall in love with Woon but alas, not meant to be. She had some happiness with Malo (or what his name was?) and it was just tragic how it all fell apart. And Kehn- sigh. Poor Rohn. All the death and killing, for what?

Its one of these stories that continues to grow and grow, parts I read with interest and parts in horror- I find I have a BAD feeling about what's about to happen to a character once it becomes their POV!

I appreciate the nuggets of wisdom as we go:

"As long as he makes you happy, that’s what’s important. Do you love him?”
Shae was thrown by the sudden question. The contrast between Hilo’s bluntness and apparent reasonableness made her unsure.
“I think so,” she answered, almost without thinking.
Hilo said, “If you’re not sure you’re in love, then you’re not.”

and

"If you want to lead, you can’t wait for everyone to line up behind you.”

These books are not fast reads by any means but they are so worth it. Fonda Lee is certainly not afraid to kill characters off and keep rolling into the next part of the plot. This book was better than the first, but that would be typical as the story and character building is already done. Much better pacing, lots of action, so much more to see through in book 3!

I don’t think I moved as fast through this one as the first one. But it was still an amazing book. Lots of political intrigue/history and dynamic characters. I loved Hilo’s growth. I loved Andy and his growth and where he is now, soooo good!
