Amanda does no wrong. I relate to so much of what she writes. This poetry book is no exception. The topics of losing a parent, having a less than ideal mother, changing and growing through your trauma, and loving your sister because she’s a part of everything you’ve ever done and everywhere you’ve ever been resonated with me deeply.

Amanda explores a topic many people tend to avoid - a mother-and-daughter relationship. She expresses the effects of trauma and grief her mother has caused her, both through her mother's actions and death. The emotion is so raw and vulnerable that it is hard not to understand where her essence draws from.
I think this book would be hard to read if the reader was unable to relate to these topics [read: you probably need mommy issues or motherhood trauma to fully get immersed in it] but I think it is a nice read for anyone. As someone with a rough relationship with her mother (who also has cancer), the book made me feel seen and let me know that there is some sort of universal experience - despite how sad it is to say.
