I do not understand the brilliance of Eliot's brain, but am grateful we get to experience the benefit of it. And I am SO glad we got this continuation and expansion of Ambrose & Kodiak's story and the humanity it contains. It's phenomenal. The perspective flips & the way each Part connects to the next at the exact right moments.🤯 It's giving that same must keep reading to find out what's next pacing of Darkness. And all the insights we get that connect back to the whys and hows of the first book and where this world ended up + the love & desire for connection inherent in it all. It's just so, so good. Do not miss this sequel to The Darkness Outside Us!!

Not as good as the first, but still pretty damn good! Ambrose and Kodiak are the gift that keeps on giving. A pretty desolate story though

Fans of The Darkness Outside Us are going to need to read this right away. It is not ground-breaking in the way the first book was, but that is a pretty high bar! (And it is earth-shattering in a much more literal way...) Told in multiple perspectives and dual timelines, this book answers so many questions about what happened both before and after the events of the first book. The ending leaves open the possibility of a third book as well. Readers learn what happened in the days leading up to and immediately after the launch of the Coordinated Endeavor from Earth, learning all that had been hidden from Ambrose and Kodiak. We also check in 17 years after they land on the exoplanet now known as Minerva. As with the first book there are unexpected twists and shocking reveals. Definitely read The Darkness Outside Us first, if you haven't already -- this won't make sense and you will ruin the experience if you read this one without it. Highly recommended to fans of The Darkness Outside Us, grades 9 & up.
