Kind of conflicted on this one. Parts of The Miseducation of Cameron Post were really good, and other parts seemed to drag on forever. While I did think this was a good book with an important narrative, I struggled to finish it. However, I still think it was worth reading. I just wish it was a bit shorter since some chapters were quite boring to me.

I’ve taken a while to review this book because quite frankly I just could not work out what to rate it. I was so thoroughly enthralled by it, feeling an intense love & connection to the characters. The writing immersed me so deeply into Cameron’s world that I felt empty when I inevitably had to depart from it. It’s been on my mind repeatedly ever since I finished reading the last page and therefore have decided that I can’t help but give it 5 stars. Maybe this isn’t justifiable however reading is subjective and my experience & absorption makes it undeniably a favourite of mine. I feel so let down & disappointed by the movie adaptation. They missed an incredible opportunity to portray such an emotive journey.

I enjoyed listening to the audiobook but this book was quite depressing and not overall very captivating for the most part.

I am so incredibly torn by weather or not I liked this book. The first half feels like it’s just a preamble for when the plot is actually going to begin, and while I love an author who really knows the full lore and backstory for each of her characters, I found myself wishing this book started with part 3 and had pieces from part 1 and 2 sprinkled through out. I wanted to discover these moments as pieces of the characters backstory rather than simply being told them up front. As is, there were no real secrets to learn or moments of revelation in The story that left the book feeling a bit flat to me and made me feel like I never really knew the main character. Moments that should have been emotionally devastating just felt a bit bland because I never believed that the character really cared for the people around her enough for their actions to hurt her. That said, there were portions of this book that were beautifully written and the ending was gorgeous. I wish the whole book had felt more like the last 40 pages.

One of the most beautiful, authentic, heartbreaking books I’ve ever read
