After losing her fiancé to suicide, Anna decides to sail solo on the trip they were supposed to take to the Caribbean. When she realizes she can’t do it alone, she hires Keane to sail with her.

This was a perfect summer read. I loved all the descriptions of the different islands and of course the food. It was a cute story, with a bit of heavy subject matter, but I loved seeing Anna come into her own.

Perfect if you enjoy books with travel or are looking for a summer type read.

I've always been enamored with the idea of sailing. I say 'idea' because I've never actually been sailing. And anytime I come across a book that features sailing, I'm almost always interested. Float Plan was no different.

The synopsis struct me at once. A grieving woman cuts her ties---and without much forethought---sets sail on the course through the Caribbean Islands she'd planned with her fiancé. It's brave, heart-wrenching, and most assuredly doomed to complications. Who doesn't want to read that inspirational story??

Immediately I was sucked into Anna's character. She's well-written and convincing, leaping off the page as a fully-formed person. How would this experience change her? How would she handle the curve balls the trip tossed her way? I wanted to know more about her and where her journey would take her.

Speaking of the journey, I found myself googling every one of the boat's destinations. If you're a follower, you know I love road trip books, and this was basically a road trip book on the sea. Doller's descriptions of the islands and ports made this traveler-stuck-at-home so happy. I lived vicariously through the characters, yearning for the warm sun, the smell of the ocean, and the local cuisines.

Keane, the Irish sailor Anna finally hires to help her, is a refreshing addition to the story--especially refreshing is how his disability is handled. He's patient and kind, even though he's dealing with his own demons.

My only complaints about this one: sometimes the transitions were too abrupt---I needed more time to sit with the emotions---and some of the dialogue wasn't organic. But these were minor issues that didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the romance.

Float Plan is one I would read again, and I would enjoy reading more from the author, as well. And can someone please make this one into a film??

Thank you to St. Martin's Griffin and Netgalley for an advanced reader's copy.

I've been seeing this book everywhere on Instagram and hearing such good things. But I must admit that I think it was even better than I'd heard.

Anna has been thrown something that no one should ever have to but her courage to sail without her fiance (or anyone for that matter) is pretty amazing. I really admired her grit and determination as she set out. She truly is brave.

Keane is amazing. I loved him. From his first interaction with Anna he was a true gentleman and was kind and caring. Even when they weren't in agreement on something he gave guidance but let her make decisions. He taught her so much. Yet I think he learned from her too. I really loved how he was raised to treat women and his devotion to his family even from afar.

Sailing isn't an interest of mine and I'm certain I would hate it - but I really loved it as the setting for this story. The difficulty of sailing seemed to pair almost perfectly with the difficulty of grief. I love how Keane and Anna were able to connect over loss. I love how they became friends. I love how well they partnered together.

While sailing isn't an interest of mine - travel is and I loved all of the different places they stopped along the way. It would be a dream to see all those sights and animals and to hear all those different languages and accents.

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

Float Plan is a book that examines grief, starting over, love, and identity. About what it feels like when we feel like an anchor to a person who leaves us. What it feels like to feel unmoored, alone, and on our own in the grief shaped hole of another person. Anna was a character I could deeply relate to and many times I thought, "that sounds exactly like something I would do". With an almost P.S. I Love You vibe, Float Plan is a book that revolves around Anna. How she begins her journey as an attempt at recovery, and how that transforms her on the ocean. What hardship, space, and exploration does to her.

I flew through this book. It took a bit to get used to the sailing terminology, and I found myself googling many of the locations, but once I got into it, I was hooked. So much more than a romance novel, Float Plan is about grief, friendship, discovery, and the power of community.
