This was okay, I feel like it needed more fleshing out and more editing. I think the romance was too quick and also their moments were fleeting. The ending was a bit random? The world building was lacking and the magic system needed more fleshing out too. The MC was all talk, no action. I wish she was more active in her story. It felt like she was just waiting for things to happen to her but then had snarky things to say back when she didn’t even do anything to fight against what was happening. Anyways, I still think it was fun and had just enough to keep me reading. Not sure if I’ll read the next book, though.

I received a beautiful edition of this book in a Fairyloot box.
"Violet Made of Thorns" is a tantalizing story about Violet, a prophet for the royal family, and Prince Cyrus. Violet and Cyrus have grown up in close proximity together, but they have lived very different lives. Violet's entire job is to see the future and help the royal family make the best decisions to rule their people, while Cyrus has been groomed to take over the throne. Violet and Cyrus have a lot of tension between them, and they seem to have to epitome of a love hate relationship. Can Violet and Cyrus work together to realize their true fates?
I was pleasantly surprised by how captivated I was by this story! Violet is a strong, capable woman who is stuck between a rock and a hard place with her role as the royal prophet. I loved seeing her walk the line between respecting the royal family and pushing back on their hardheadedness. The king saved her and she feels obligated to help him, but she does not know if that is the "right" thing.
Cyrus and Violet have amazing chemistry. I am normally not a huge enemies-to-lovers trope fan, but I am a huge childhood-friends-to-lovers trope fan. You cannot help but root for Cyrus and Violet.
I am SO excited to pick up the sequel to this story and see how the rest of Cyrus's and Violet's stories unfold.

Ugh, I'm so torn on this book!

First off, the negatives: I couldn't stand Violet most of the time. There's a very fine line between being a "cool" anti-heroine character and being a pick-me girl and most of the time, she was the latter. There was so little build-up to her and Cyrus' relationship and their characterisation sometimes seemed to change at will.

But there was also a lot of stuff I loved! I wish this had been an adult or new adult fantasy because godddd, were those spicy scenes good. Like, came for the fantasy, stayed for the blood kink. In their makeout scenes, Cyrus & Violet had so much chemistry and especially towards the end, it really turned into a dark romance. Obsessed with that! I also enjoyed the magic system and the main villain.

I wish the next book would be more focused on Cyrus & Violet's relationship and less on the, a bit boring, plot. The writing was so beautiful and especially that last chapter makes me tempted to still read the next one 🤫
