Such a fun book to listen to!! Love Mindy and everything about her. Favorite parts: discussing how long it takes for men to put on their shoes (agreed), stylists trying to force her into a size zero, and all things her failures. It's hard to believe she's even had failures because she's so amazing, but hearing her talk about being a guest writer on SNL is just hilarious and relatable.

“You should know I disagree with a lot of traditional advice. For instance, they say the best revenge is living well. I say it’s acid in the face—who will love them now?”

You know what I LOVE a bout Mindy Kaling? She's a natural. She doesn't even try, she doesn't have to. What ever comes out of that woman's mouth is a humorous realistic fact of what she's thinking. Not only is she hilarious but she's also pretty freakin intelligent. I actually listened to this book on audiobook in which she narrated the entire book and yes, it made it that much BETTER. Hearing about her child hood to the journey of her fame was enjoyable and she gave alot of good statements to sit and ponder about.

I would definitely recommend this to those who like Mindy as a comedian and not just as a writer for The Office, I would not recommend this for those who can't take a joke because from reading this book that seems to be Mindy's entire life.

I think I may have built this book up too much in my head before really getting into it. It was a quick read--I finished it in two days. I did not really appreciate some of the humor, specifically how lightly she discussed sexual assault. I was also expecting it to be a lot funnier than it was. Maybe I'm too used to watching Mindy act, and reading was difficult for me? I also did not particularly care for the flow of the book. It felt very sporadic and random.

To me, this book was ok. Just ok. I didn't particularly like flipping the pages and I kept looking at how many pages I had left to read. I did, however, like reading about her time in college and as a writer on TV.
This book is so random- it didn't follow any pattern or sequence. This is her book and she may write it as she likes, but it felt disorganized to me which affected my opinion of it. All in all, I love Mindy, but this book was just "Meh".

Made me laugh, feel understood, and take myself less seriously while in my mid-20s.
