It was kind of struggle to try to get this one read. Not sure why though since I've read the first four already and they were ok. I got into page 100 and something and then I was urged to stop reading, it just didn't feel worth reading anymore. I might just be too old for this kind of literature :D
I don't love The Vampire Diaries but I found it entertaining and for all intents and purposes the series ends with [b:Dark Reunion|1216147|Dark Reunion (The Vampire Diaries, #4)|L.J. Smith|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1332722867s/1216147.jpg|385372]. If you're like me though and just have to know why the author decided to bring this series back after ending it years before, then by all means pick up this book and marvel at L.J. Smith's ability to shit all over her own series.
Things I hated about this book:
You can't just thrust this shit into book 5 and expect me to just roll with it like you ain't jumping the fucking shark, man.
Ethereal, childlike Elena that floats around like a fucking balloon.
I found this to be quite hilarious actually.
Damon, I fucking hate Damon, I don't get the fangirling. There is literally nothing redeemable about this character.
Random Italian dialogue, which pissed me off because it's like "Hey I don't know WTF Damon's saying, I guess I need to use Google translate or some shit because the author just assumes everyone knows Italian or something."
This is how you get fired from your own series and end up having to write fanfiction about it instead.

The novel’s story line is different than the story lines of the other TVD novels. The story becomes more imaginative and more impossible, in a lousy and cheap way, at some points the story is too absurd to read. Nonetheless, there is some good character development in the novel. All of the characters grow, especially Elena’s friends and Elena herself, they become stronger and stand a little bit taller. I like how the character develop in the novel, it is presented perfectly. The ending of the story is alright, it makes you want to read the sequel and see what is going to happen to the people in Fell’s Church, and it also makes you want to know who the next antagonist and protagonist is.

‘Stefan was dead all right - but he had been dead for hundreds of years. And it was true that he was a vampire, but calling him a demon was like calling Tinkerbell armed and dangerous.’ - Damon, p.9
‘‘Why do people always assume that volume will succeed when logic won’t?’’ - Damon, p.244
Well, like my rating says, this book was okay. There were some really good parts in this book, but at the same time, there were confusing parts that didn't make sense at all. It's almost like Smith just rushed through writing this book!

The TV show is amazing. The book series is garbage. That basically sums of what's going to be a very short review.
I first watched the TV show and found that amazing and im still watching it now! I was convinced the book series would be even better... How wrong I was...
Elena is just a bitch in the books who is seriously annoying, stuck up and she doesn't deserve any sympathy at all. Stefan is utterly boring and I think his only line in the whole series is ' I love you Elena'. Damon is way more evil but actually has got to be the best character. Bonnie is the best female character, though even she is just... Extremely annoying at times. The rest of the characters are just boring or two dimensional twits.
The first book at least was decent and i managed to get through it thinking okay this could be an 'okay' series that will get better. Then Elena died in the 3rd volume which confused me... But also pleased me since its Elena, but then i realised she would obviously come back to life since she's (unfortunately) the main character. The this book happened (5th volume) and I'd finally had enough. The strange fox people were VERY weird, the trees attacking people was stupid, Caroline goes crazy for no apparent reason and somehow Elena manages to get stuck in a snow globe?!? I mean i know this book is supernatural and all so its not realistic but how unrealistic can you get? Its like something out of a book for 5 year olds.
I only just managed to get halfway through this book and even then it was torture. I very rarely don't finished a book, but this one i just couldn't get through.
DO NOT PUT YOURSELF THROUGH THE TORTURE! WATCH THE TV SHOW INSTEAD!!!!!!
