I am one who finds the existence of a convenience store a blessing somehow. It serves an odd sense of comfort that an establishment will always be there to cater to your needs no matter what time of the day, season, or page you are in your life. The calming sounds of the door opening, the meals being prepared in the machines, the abundance of options for on-the-go takeouts, and the enticing aroma of coffee that you can drink down. And this book serves as evidence of that.

The Convenience Store by the Sea is a book that captures the lives of the people working and are walking in and out of the store as they go on with multiple perspectives of their lives. It is heart warming as it goes I can somewhat relate to other characters as well. I can say that there is a character for everyone no matter what age you are. It is a perfect book to pick up if you want something light to consume in the height of a summer.

I like how this encapsulates the warmth of one community as well, as it revolves around the central theme that love can be passed in a way of simple thoughtfulness. A gesture, one simple word, or one’s mere presence can help one or change the course of their lives. And perhaps bring a new hue  to it. The convenience store is the testament to that. I am fond of the people and the tastiness of how the food was described as well.

One gripe that I have with this book was how long were the chapters are. I get that each chapter was intended for one person, do not get me wrong I love reading books about mundanity but it certainly does feel somewhat like a handful to get through. And I do feel that the ending felt lacklustre as well. And one character being the manager did not feel as fleshed out as the others are intended too. He feels 2D at most besides the other characters. But overall, it was a pleasant time. A little too biased but , yeah.

If you are one who likes Hometown Chachacha, Welcome to Samdal-ri, or the Convenience Store Woman. This can be one book that you can pick up as well.

Really lovely read - charming, you almost feel like you’re a part of the convenience store community. Great read for a rainy day.
